Comment #10 on issue 549 by bryan.oa...@gmail.com: Test parser should
retain source line numbers
http://code.google.com/p/robotframework/issues/detail?id=549
I see almost a year has passed since my last comment on this issue. Is
there any hope of seeing this feature implemented in the next release? I
think I addressed all of Pekka's concerns. If there's more to be discussed,
I'm happy to discuss it. If work needs to be done, I'm willing to help do
it.
To recap: line numbers can be an invaluable aid in debugging. If the
information could be made to the listeners, it would be possible to create
a really nice debugger. Line numbers could also be included in the log, so
we could potentially link directly from the log to the line of code that
failed the test. Finally, it makes it possible to create a lint-like tool
that can spot errors in test cases, and report on them by line number.
Even if this data never makes it into the report, just having them in the
parsing model would make better development tools possible, without
requiring additional patches to the core.
