As discussed on IRC, I think just one keyword that takes the input format
as an optional argument works better than having a separate library. This
is easy to implement if the keyword takes the input as a single argument
and not *varargs.
I had some extra time and implemented, with tests, the attached version.
What do you think? If we agree this is a good approach, we can still
include it into 2.8.2.
