Comment #4 on issue 1596 by pekka.klarck: **kwargs support for remote
library interface
http://code.google.com/p/robotframework/issues/detail?id=1596
@kormbrek, I actually do remember and I'm really ashamed I've left that
pull request and the whole project hanging. I have excuses like life
getting in the way and that project not being important for my client then,
but this has nevertheless been totally unacceptable.
I've been thinking about resurrecting the project for some time now, and
there are many reasons why I think it should be done now:
- The remote server could be enhanced many ways and that's easier to do if
it is a separate project.
- The server should be pip-installable. Again easier when it is a separate
project.
- Just this week I agreed with my client that we want to move Robot itself
away from Google Code either to GitHub or BitBucket so that accepting
contributions is easier.
- A precondition to the previous item is moving all tools, demos, and other
subprojects that are currently part of the core framework project away to
separate projects.
- RF 2.8.2 is out (and 2.8.3 will be ready soon too) and I have no other
bigger project going on.
- My life isn't getting that much in the way anymore in general.
In other words, there are plenty of reasons why to do it and I also have
time for it. Would you Kevin be interested to work with me getting the
project going? Should start with discussing the current status, decide what
is needed for 1.0 release, and also think a bit about the future. I'd
prefer to use IRC for that so that others could join too and the discussion
would be automatically logged to
http://koti.kapsi.fi/peke/irclogs/robotframework/ for future reference.
This comment got pretty long. We probably should move this discussion to
robotframework-users and then perhaps to IRC.
