Same issue exists for me.
1) Does the link to the source directory work if you open /Users/username/Sites/logs/log.html to your browser directly?

2) Does you web server setup work if you move also your webdemo directory under Sites? I dont understand this question, I am not using any webserver to use the test source file . Its simply on the fileystem

C:\Dev\workspace\core-automation-framework\core-automation-\Global_Search\Global_Search.txt

Windows 7 chrome 32 and IE9
As I see when I click on the source file link from RF log file it tries to access a URL which starts with
res://ieframe.dll/dnserror.htm#file*

Not sure whether its related to the environment., but the please note that the answer to question 1 is YES
