One of the most outrageous FEMA stories to surface so far is the story of Forrest County, Mississippi Sheriff Billy McGee who is being prosecuted on federal charges for commandeering ice trucks during the height of the desperation of the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in Mississippi and Louisiana. While tens of thousands of families still live in tents in the two states hardest hit the federal government is apparently seeking to make an "example" out of a county sheriff.

Forrest County Sheriff Billy McGee doesn't take the threat of federal prosecution lightly, but he has faced worse.

McGee's perspective is that of a man who survived the rigors of leukemia treatment, including six weeks in an isolation tent.

"This has certainly affected my day-to-day life but, in the big picture, it's certainly trivial compared to life or death," McGee said.

The 53-year-old, four-term sheriff is in trouble for his actions in commandeering two ice trucks on Sept. 4 from a Federal Emergency Management Agency staging area at Camp Shelby and sending them to relief centers in the communities of Brooklyn and Sheeplo.
