I agree with your disagreement (although I can see the other POV).
(Of course, to be completely consistent "right" shouldn't select anywhere, even in the file browser.
Disagree, left and right are fastest way to traverse a tree - having to click Select each time would be awful. But Select functions also, so people can already pick and choose.
Worst-case, make it an option... --gl
