I just wanted to point out that he can usea speak-enabled Emacs for
developing on linux.  Emacs can run a shell too, so he wouldn't need more
special software than that. I haven't tested it myself, I just read about it
and I think it is really cool.

emacs != unix ...

(emacs even runs on windows, while unix (naturally) doesn't)
