Yes, it is possible that all current 80GB drives use 1Kbyte physical blocks, and then the iriver ATA code needs to be adjusted.

Are you sure you didn't mix that up with the old Archos USB-ATA
bridge?

Ah, yes. My bad.

Still, if the 80GB drive behaves like the one in the iPod, it might very well fail because of the 1Kbyte alignment problem.
