Rockbox SDK?

I'm interested in writing a small rockbox app, but I'm not necessarily
looking to hack on rockbox itself. Should I checkout the whole source tree
to write plugins or is there an SDK for plugin developers somewhere? I
didn't see anything on the website but I maybe blind.
