Is there a sort of detente regarding patents, between the companies that rely on them and those organisations who would rather not be involved?
I imagine that Apple could expend a lot of legal effort matching up their IP portfolio against projects like Rockbox; that effort could be hard to justify from a commercial point of view. Similarly Rockbox could pursue Apple's patent claiming prior art, but if you recognise one patent, shouldn't you recognise them all? And that's something that wouldn't be in the interests of Rockbox.
