I'd actually prefer if the FS# were the first line of the commit (or rather,
the very first X characters). This is handy for RSS readers as well, I
think, for the IRC bot (which gives limited info) since you can immediately
know where to look for the really detailed history of the patch.


agreed.

The git docs also state that the first line of a commit is used for some tools to sum up the commit (not that I know any of those). I'm undecided.
