To my knowledge, it appears that the patch replaces our MOD codec with
its own. This may or may not necessarily be a Bad Thing, since the mikmod
codec has exhibited better compatibility with some MOD files.

AFAIK, when I last tried the plugin version, control was handed over
to the plugin.
