Hi, The delay is somehow related to the link layer technologies. Let me explain : if you consider a satellite access, using ATM at layer 2, your VoIP packets will be segmented into 2 ATM cells. These kinds of access control the bandwidth using a radio ressource management protocol based on requests emitted by the terminals and a Network control center that collects the requests and calculate the MF-TDMA allocation plan used by the terminal to emit their layer 2 packets. With this scheme, the 2 cells can be emitted separetly (i.e. on different frames) leading to an increased delay. Now, using ROHC you will be able to have only 1 cell to transport your VoIP pakct, leading to a reduction of the delay at layer 2
