EXTENDED ATMOSPHÈRES a sonic discourse / a deep listening space by György Ligeti (hu) Jan-Peter E.R. Sonntag (de), Edwin van der Heide (nl)Edwin van der Heide and Jan-Peter E.R. Sonntag re-stage / open up the compositional and spacious Atmosphères. György Ligeti wrote the piece in 1961 and in the same year it was premiered by the SWF Orchestra in Donaueschingen. Atmosphèresis a radical response to serialism. In 1968, Stanley Kubrik used a recording of the piece as a sample atmosphere in shooting his film 2001: A Space Odyssey, commissioned it for the score, and over night Atmosphèresbecame famous as film music. In 2011, ten years after the virtual odyssey and fifty years after the films premiere, van der Heide and Sonntag enter into a sonic discourse with Ligetis futuristic audio icon. EXTENDED ATMOSPHÈRES Edwin van der Heide und Jan-Peter E.R. Sonntag "re-stage" / öffnen kompositorisch und räumlich "Atmosphéres". 1961 schreibt György Ligetis diese Komposition und noch im gleichen Jahr wird das Stück in Donaueschingen vom Orchester des SWF uraufgeführt. ATMOSPHÈRES ist eine radikale Antwort auf die serielle Musik. 1968 setzt Stanley Kubrik eine Aufnahme des Stücks als Proben-"Atmo" bei seinen Dreharbeiten von Odyssey2001 ein, sagt die von ihm in Auftrag gegebene Filmmusik ab und über Nacht wird ATMOSPHÈRES als Filmmusik bekannt. 2011, 10 Jahre nach der virtuellen Odysse und 50 Jahre nach der Uraufführung begeben sich van der Heide und Sonntag in einen sonischen Diskurs mit Ligetis klanglicherZukunftsikone.Each performance (30min)will begin on the half hour and entry is only permitted at the end of each loop.
