PLATONIQ Workshop »Das Gemeingut finanzieren« (crowdfunding the commons), 23. und 24. Februar 2012, im Rahmen der Citizen Art Days in Berlin
>English Version below< In letzter Zeit lässt sich eine zunehmende Verbreitung von „crowdfunding”-Plattformen im Internet beobachten. Generell betrachtet sind das funktionale und konzeptionelle Design all dieser Plattformen gleich: (a) kleine, im Vorfeld festgelegte und skalierende wirtschaftliche Summen, die von einer grossen Anzahl von Bürgern gegen eine vorher festhelegte individuelle Belohnung beigesteuert werden, (b) ein Finanzierungsziel, das keine Transaktionen aktiviert, solange dieses nicht im vorgesehenen Zeitraum erreicht wird, und (c) das Vertrauen, als Antrieb der Absprache, dass der Initiator des Projektes das versprochene Werk wirklich realisiert und jedem Beteiligten, der ihn bei der Finanzierung unterstützt hat, die vorher festgelegten Belohnungen auszahlt. Goteo.org wurde im November 2011 von Platoniq.net mit dem Ziel gestartet, einen Schritt in der Entwicklung von crowdfunding weiter zu gehen. Zur gemeinschaftlichen Finanzierung fügte Platoniq.net die Aufgabenverteilung als Möglichkeit für Kollaboration hinzu (Unterstützung bei der Realisierung bestimmter Aufgaben, Material- und Infrastrukturverleih) und konzentriert sich auf die Verdeutlichung der gemeinnützigen Seite kultureller und innovativer Projekte, nämlich ihr Potenzial als Allmendegut, Werkzeuge, Information und Wissen für die Gesellschaft offen bereit zu stellen. Diese Änderungen haben für den Kulturbereich interessante Nebenwirkungen, fördern sie doch die Generierung gemeinsamer digitaler Archive, das Entstehen von Interessengemeinschaften oder die Chance, bereits früh Aufmerksamkeit des Publikums oder der Nutzer zu erhalten. Der Workshop besteht aus zwei Teilen: Im ersten Teil stellen die spanischen Kulturproduzenten Platoniq Typologien von Online-Plattformen für Mikrofinanzierungsstrategien, Kollektivfinanzierungen (crowdfunding) und p2p-Kredite vor. Im zweiten Teil wird auf »analoge« Art und Weise die Kollektivfinanzierung unter Einbeziehung des Gemeinguts mit den Teilnehmern des Workshops erprobt. Die Teilnehmer des Workshops erforschen mit den Mitteln der partizipativen Dynamik den Prozess kollektiver Finanzierung anhand eigener, realer Projekte. Generally speaking, the functional and conceptional design of all those platforms is equal: (a) small, defined sums of money are contributed by the general public in exchange for a fixed individual reward; (b) a funding target does not result in a transaction where the target is not achieved within the agreed period; and (c ) trust acts as the driver of the agreement that the project initiator does in fact realize the promised work and accordingly pays out the agreed reward to all supporting participants. Goteo.org was founded in November 2011 by Platoniq.net with the express aim of going one step further in the development of crowdfunding. To common financing, Platonic.net added the distribution of tasks as a further opportunity for collaboration (supporting the realization of certain tasks, rental of materials and infrastructures) and is focused on clarifying the non-commercial side of cultural and innovative projects; that is, the potential to provide them as a common resource, set of tools, information and knowledge for society at large. These changes have interesting side effects for the cultural sphere, as they promote the generation of commonly used digital archives, the emergence of joint communities of interest and the chance to secure the attention of the audience and users at an early stage. The workshop consists of two parts. In the first part, the Spanish artist group Platoniq presents typologies of online microfinancing strategies, collective financing (“crowdfunding”) and p2p credit platforms. In the second part, collective financing is tested in "analoguous” fashion. Workshop participants, making use of the process's participatory dynamic tools, explore collective financing based on their own real projects. The dynamics of the process allow the same functionality of a collective financing platform to arise at an analogous level, and show the potential (as well as the difficulties and challenges) of this system, and its significance as a new tool in the online world. This Workshop will take place in German and English. A registration fee of €20 as “play money” is required for this workshop.
