INVITATION TO FILM PREMIERE : Friday April 12th, 20:00, please forward

Eikka: luotolainen, hailuotolainen, manterelainen
a documentary film by Kyd Campbell, 2013

"I don’t quite remember, but I think Eikka got 54 votes… and that’s the most
that anyone ever got in the municipal council elections." Matti Hautanen,
Hailuoto

The documentary film "EIKKA: luotolainen, hailuotolainen, manterelainen" by Kyd
Campbell, was created on Hailuoto island in Finland. Through interviews, video
recordings, photographs and story collecting, Kyd Campbell (CAN) tells a poetic
memory of the late Hailuoto resident Eino Merilä commonly known as Eikka, who
died in December 2011. The artist/curator was invited by Hai Art to create a
portrait of Eikka and his large collection that he kept on his property.
Memories and images were recorded in Hailuoto in December 2012, addressing
issues of preservation, environmental activism, communication and community in
the Bothnian Bay. Hailuoto is an island of 200.53 square kilometers with a
current permanent population of 989 residents. The islet is rising out of the
sea, at a continuous rate of 1cm per year, due to post-glacial rebound. This
work is part of a larger body of research and production on the subject of
memory and archiving within remote communities. http://3artists.tumblr.com

"I thought I was challenging myself to record what was no longer there, but I
realised I am documenting what is taking its place." - reflection
