Verein
Der Verein Tiroler Künstlerschaft begreift sich als ein Forum für Kunst
in Tirol, eine Schnittstelle zwischen den professionellen bildenden
KünstlerInnen, die in Tirol leben oder aus Tirol stammen, der
interessierten Öffentlichkeit und anderen kulturellen Institutionen im
In- und Ausland. Eine wichtige Aufgabe sieht die Tiroler Künstlerschaft
darin, Kontakte zu international tätigen KünstlerInnen, KuratorInnen und
TheoretikerInnen zu knüpfen und zu pflegen.

Programm
Das Ausstellungsprogramm im Kunstpavillon und in der Stadtturmgalerie
stellt Projekte von Tiroler KünstlerInnen in einen internationalen
Zusammenhang. Der Schwerpunkt liegt in der Präsentation von
Kunstproduktion mit Tirolbezug im Wechselspiel mit Ausstellungen von
externen KuratorInnen und KünstlerInnen aus dem Ausland und anderen
österreichischen Bundesländern.
In den letzten Jahren wurde das Programm von Kunstpavillon und der
Stadtturmgalerie der Tiroler Künstlerschaft durch eine Ausschreibung an
die Mitglieder des Vereins und überregional an KünstlerInnen und
KuratorInnen generiert. Eine aus Vorstandsmitgliedern des Vereins und
externen ExpertInnen bestehende Fachjury wählte die Projekte aus. Ab
2008 wird das Ausstellungsprogramm inhaltlich verklammert werden. Durch
die Vorgabe des Jahresthemas „GRENZZIEHUNGEN?“ erwartet sich der Verein
einerseits ein stringenteres Ausstellungsprogramm und möchte sich
andererseits auch inhaltlich stärker vertiefen. Vorträge und Symposien
zu Teilbereichen des Themas sollen die Ausstellungen begleiten bzw.
sollen die genannten Formate gleichberechtigt ineinander greifen.

und vergangene Ausstellungsprogramm. Es sind 2008 vier Ausstellungen im
Kunstpavillon und fünf in der Stadtturmgalerie vorgesehen.

Ausstellungsorte
Kunstpavillon:
Der Kunstpavillon liegt wenige Gehminuten vom Stadtzentrum entfernt im
so genannten Kleinen Hofgarten. Die Hofburg und das Kongresshaus
befinden sich in unmittelbarer Nähe. Das Haus, das 1842 als Sommerhaus
des Landesgouverneurs erbaut wurde, wurde 1950 zu einer klassischen
Oberlichtgalerie adaptiert. Der Raum hat ca. 175 m².
Stadtturmgalerie:
Die ca. 60 m² kleine Stadtturmgalerie befindet sich im Erdgeschoß des
Stadtturmes, also direkt in der Innsbrucker Altstadt. Die spezielle
architektonische Situation – historische Gewölbe öffnen sich durch einen
zugebauten Glaskubus zum Innenhof – erwies sich in der Vergangenheit als
spannender Ausgangspunkt für raumbezogene Ausstellungsprojekte (nicht
verpflichtend).

Das Thema
Für das Jahresprogramm 2008 werden Ausstellungs- und Projektvorschläge
berück berücksichtigt, die sich mit dem vorgegebenen Thema
GRENZZIEHUNGEN? befassen bzw. das Thema anreißen:
Grenzen setzen, sich abgrenzen, Borderline, geografische und politische
Grenzen, Migration, Altersgrenze, Haut, Toleranzgrenze, Schmerzgrenze,
Horizont, grenzenlos - the sky´s the limit … Das Thema der Grenzziehung
umfasst viele Bereiche von der politisch motivierten Recherche-Kunst
über den Tabubruch bis hin zu Überlegungen, wie Farbflächen voneinander
abzugrenzen sind bzw. vice versa, wie sie sich idealer Weise zueinander
verhalten sollen. Militärische Sperrzonen, Bioethik, Schubhaft,
Auflösung, körperliche sowie formale Grenzgänge werden thematisiert.
Disziplinäre Grenzgänge zur Geografie/Kartografie, Ethik, Soziologie,
Psychologie und Philosophie sind dem Thema ebenso inhärent.

Auswahl
Eine Programmjury, bestehend aus externen ExpertInnen und Mitgliedern
des Vorstandes wählt die Projekte aus. Der Jury obliegt es auch
inhaltliche Schwerpunkte innerhalb des großen Themengebiets
„Grenzziehungen?“ festzulegen. Die Mitglieder der Jury werden die
Projekte begleiten und in den Diskurs das Jahr über eingebunden sein.
Der Ablauf des Programms wird bis September 2007 durch den Vorstand
zusammengestellt.

Bewerbungsverfahren
Ausstellungsprojekte für das Jahr 2008 können bis 15. Juni 2007 bei der
Tiroler Künstlerschaft, Kunstpavillon, Rennweg 8a, 6020 Innsbruck,
eingereicht werden. Die Bewerbungsunterlagen sollen ein f ormloses
Ansuchen, eine Konzeptbeschreibung, Dokumentationsmaterial der
bisherigen Arbeiten/Ausstellungen in Kurzform (Fotos, Kataloge u.ä.;
keine Originale!) und einen aktuellen Lebenslauf in Kurzform enthalten.
Es bietet sich an, für den Kunstpavillon Gemeinschaftsprojekte und für
die Stadtturmgalerie Einzelausstellungen einzureichen (nicht zwingend!).

Exhibitions proposals for the Kunstpavillon and the Stadtturmgalerie of
the Tyrolean Artists Association in Innsbruck, Austria
Call for submissions for 2008

Association
The Tyrolean Artists Association (Tiroler Künstlerschaft) regards itself
as an art forum for the Tyrol, an interface between professional visual
artists, living in or hailing from the Tyrol, the interested public, and
other cultural institutions in the region and abroad. As an important
task the association also undertakes to establish and cultivate contacts
to artists, curators and theoreticians moving on the international stage.

Programme
The exhibition programme at the Kunstpavillon and the Stadtturmgalerie
aims to place projects by Tyrolean artist in an international context.
Emphasis, however, is put on presenting artistic productions with
reference to the Tyrol, and setting these productions in relation to
exhibitions by external curators and artists from abroad as well as from
other Austrian regions.
In recent years, the programme of the Kunstpavillon and the
Stadtturmgalerie was generated through a call for projects addressed to
the members of the Tyrolean Artists Association and, supraregionally, to
artists and curators. A programme jury, consisting of members of the
association’s executive committee and external experts, chose from the
projects submitted. From 2008 the exhibition programme will be placed
under a general heading. By stipulating the overall theme for the year,
namely ‘DEMARCATIONS?’ (germ: 'Grenzziehungen?'), the association
expects a more stringent exhibition programme. Lectures and symposia on
particular aspects of the topic shall accompany the exhibitions, while
all the formats mentioned, being attached equal importance to, shall
ideally complement each other.

past exhibition programmes. For 2008 four exhibitions are planned at the
Kunstpavillon and five at the Stadtturmgalerie.

Exhibition Spaces
Kunstpavillon:
The Kunstpavillon is situated a few minutes walking distance from the
city centre in the so-called 'Kleiner Hofgarten', in close proximity to
the Imperial Palace (Hofburg) and the Congress Centre. The building,
erected as a summer residence for the Provincial Governor in 1842, was
adapted to become a traditional skylighted gallery. The room measures
about 175 square metres.
Stadtturmgalerie:
The Stadtturmgalerie, comprising around 60 square metres, is located on
the ground floor of the old City Tower (Stadtturm), which is at the
heart of Innsbruck’s Old Town. The special architectural situation –
historical vaults open up onto the backyard through an extension in the
shape of a glass cube – in the past has proven to be an exciting
environment for exhibition projects reacting to the spatial situation
(no obligation!). However, the selection of the projects does not
presume obligatory the work with the space itself.

The Theme
For the 2008 annual programme exhibition and project proposals are
considered, which deal with the stipulated theme ‘DEMARCATIONS?’:
To draw up borders, to dissociate oneself, borderline, geographical and
political frontiers, migration, age limit, skin, limit of tolerance,
threshold of pain, horizon, no limits – the sky is the limit … The theme
‘DEMARCATIONS?’ encompasses many areas, from the politically motivated
research art, to the breaking of taboos, and to considerations on, for
instance, how to delimit colour fields from each other, or, vice versa,
how they ideally should behave towards each other. Restricted areas,
bioethics, remand pending deportation, disintegration, physical and/or
formal border crossings, all these questions could form the subject of a
project. Considering the overall theme, the crossing of borders to
disciplines such as geography/cartography, ethics, sociology,
psychology, and philosophy also suggests itself.

Selection
A programme jury, consisting of members of the association’s executive
committee and external experts, choose from the projects submitted. It
will also be up to the jury to pick out certain aspects of the overall
theme ‘DEMARCATIONS?’ for particular consideration. The members of the
jury will support the projects with their expertise and will actively be
involved in the discourse throughout the year. The programme will be
drawn up by the board of the association until September 2007.

Application Procedure
Exhibition projects for the year 2008 may be handed in to the Tiroler
Künstlerschaft, Kunstpavillon, Rennweg 8a, 6020 Innsbruck, until 15 June
2007 2007. Applications should consist of an informal letter, a project
description (7 copies), succinct documentation of previous
works/exhibitions (photographs, catalogues etc.; no originals!), and a
short up-to-date CV (7 copies). Generally, the Kunstpavillon is better
suited to group exhibitions while the Stadtturmgalerie offers good
conditions for solo shows. However, there is no obligation of any kind
in this regard.
