Die oesterreichische Kuenstlerin Evamaria
Trischak nimmt das geografische Koordinatensystem
zum Anlass, eine spezielle psychogeografische
Erfahrung von Dortmund zu entwickeln. Dortmund
liegt 51° noerdlich des Aequators und 07°
oestlich von Greenwich, dem so genannten
Nullmeridian. Deshalb beginnen alle
GPS-Koordinaten in Dortmund mit der Bezeichnung N
51° E 07°. Der Name des Workshops 5107 nimmt
darauf Bezug. Im Zentrum des Interesses stehen
die genauen Minutenschnittpunkte des GPS-Rasters
im Stadtgebiet von Dortmund. Die Punkte sind auf
der Nord-Sued-Achse etwa 1,9 km, auf der
Ost-West-Achse ca. 1 km voneinander entfernt.
Ziel im Rahmen des Workshops ist es, diese Orte
mit Hilfe eines GPS-Geraets aufzusuchen und
fotografisch zu dokumentieren. Vier Fotos je
Punkt - je eines pro Himmelsrichtung - sind fuer
5107 notwendig. Durch die Ansteuerung eines
GPS-Minutenschnittpunktes begibt man sich auf
eine Expedition durch Dortmund - und zwar abseits
historisch gewachsener Strassensysteme. Dortmund
wird zum Expeditionsziel, zum
Vermessungsgegenstand, zum Spielplatz und zur
abstrakten Matrix. Durch die nuechterne
Registrierungs- und Umsetzungsstrategie wird eine
systematische und konzeptuelle Auseinandersetzung
mit dem Stadtgebiet von Dortmund angeregt.

The Austrian artist Evamaria Trischak has been
inspired by the Global Positioning System to
develop a special psychogeographic record of
Dortmund. Dortmund is located 51° north of the
equator and 07° east of Greenwich, the so-called
prime meridian. This is why all GPS coordinates
in Dortmund begin with N 51° E 07°. The workshop
title 5107 references this specification. The
centre of focus lies in the specific GPS-grid
minute intercept points for the Dortmund
municipal area. The points are situated circa 1.9
km apart on the north-south axis, and circa 1 km
apart on the east-west axis. In the scope of the
workshop, the objective will be to locate and
visit these locations with the aid of a GPS
device and to document them photographically.
Four photographs per point - one for each point
of the compass - are necessary for 5107. By
homing in on a GPS minute intercept point, one
embarks on an expedition through Dortmund - and,
indeed, off the beaten path of historically
evolved street networks. Dortmund becomes an
expedition destination, a surveying subject, a
playground, and an abstract matrix. The
down-to-earth strategy for registration and
implementation inspires a systematic and
conceptual exploration of Dortmund's urban space.
