berichtet
wie ueber den Irak. Doch was geschieht dort zwischen den Nachrichten?
Anja Wollenberg und Klaas Glenewinkel praesentieren mit "Iraqiscope –
Filme und Clips aus dem Irak" professionelle Filmproduktionen und
Amateurfilme, die in den letzen Jahren im Irak entstanden sind.
Geschichten von Liebe und Krieg, Selbstgedrehtes aus der Badewanne und
Dokumentarfilme ueber Polizisten, Widerstandskaempfer, Djihadisten,

As part of USM08, Melbourne's central city square comes alive with an
Extensive outdoor exhibition that explores the diverse local
infrastructure
of urban screens, utilized to create the atmosphere of a lively modern
public space.
USM08: Connected Communities is a free public multimedia exhibition
exploring the influence of digital moving images in public spaces
utilizing
the infrastructure of Federation Square and temporary LED screens, in
selected regional Australian cities.
The exhibition is a six-day program that experiments with the
programming
of a wide range of cultural content, suitable for urban screens. USM08
presents film screenings, an artistic short film program,
interactive art,
audiovisual performances, projections, VJ sets, live streamings and
public
remote talks.
The international program includes e.g. specific artistic night an
morning
screenings, considering the issue of light and sound pollution, a
special
local indigenous program, futuristic films such as Spielberg¹s
Minority
Report or visual thought provoking films such as Koyaanisqatsi as
well as
interactive screen-based projects including Falling Times a
participatory,
news translation machine based on the universal language of signs;
Seed
whereby people receive a 'seed' via their mobile phone that they can
grow
into a tree on the big screen; and MobiSpray - an application that
allow
visitors to digitally spray paint the architectural façade,
StalkShow a
screen backback performance, dealing with the threat of insecurity and
isolation in public space or Reflections, a real-time documentary
about our
emotional connection to water and urban screens experience.
USM08 has invited Melbourne-based festivals and their creative
communities
to share the platform of USM08 to explore ways of inspiring the city
to
modernise the use of urban screens. Selected highlights from partner
events
such as the New York based Streaming Museum, Art at the Heart from
Alice
Springs and Blinkenlights Stereoscope from Toronto will be broadcast
live as
part of the Joint Broadcasting program.

The Festival reflects on a worldwide trend of large digital moving
images
integrated in facade structures and investigating their communicative
function in the urban environment.
ARTISTS EXPERIMENT WITH A NEW EXHIBITION FORMAT
For the first time, the public will witness the use of not only
cultural but
also commercial facades of SAP, O2 World, Gasometer Schöneberg,
Collegium
Hungaricum Berlin and the Wall-Terminal as cultural communication
portals.
Twenty-four original artist works specifically commissioned for the
different façades will be screened from 17 October until 3 November
2008.
The artist works will focus on the exploration of site-specific
content,
space and dimension. The unique artistic productions and
installations will
also involve participation of the local inhabitants where the
facades are
situated in an attempt to generate a new sense of identity. The
interaction
amongst the commercial media facade operators, curators, artists and
the
general public facilitated through this festival will serve as testing
ground for future creative and urban media developments.
CONFERENCE AND ARCHITECTURE EXPOSITON
Alongside, we present an international conference with a diverse
range of
speakers and an architectural exhibition comparing and providing
details
about worldwide unique media Facades at the German Architecture
Center.
There's a lot in store for the mind and for the eyes.
The conference will focus on the relevance of media architecture and
urban
screens both for experts and the general public. It aims to promote
architectural questions and visions within a wider context of related
aspects considering danger of visual overload in urban space. Besides
Project Presentations and an expert workshop organized by ARUP we will
discuss the following topics:
- Social Media Architecture
- Culture, Economy, Public Space - an Interface
- Perception and behavior - facing Urban Media
- Dynamic Ornament- Towards a new Iconography

Das dritte Konzert der Reihe ZAM Labor setzt sich mit dem Thema
Spieltheorie auseinander. Der Kölner Gitarrist und Komponist Maciej
Sledziecki ist der Theorie nachgegangen und widmet das von ihm
kuratierte Labor der theoretischen Komponente von Improvisation. So
hat er Musiker eingeladen, die mit Spielkonzepten vertraut sind, etwa
den französischen Gitarristen Noël Akchoté und einen der Leiter des
James Choice Orchesters, den Saxophonisten Matthias Schubert. Der
Musikwissenschaftler und Pianist aus Lyon, Clément Canonne wird die
theoretischen Hintergründe erläutern, während der Spielzeugmusiker
Harald “Sack” Ziegler und die Klang- und Medienkünstlerin Echo Ho die
Theorie schlussendlich wieder auf den Boden der Praxis holen.

Ins ZAM Labor begeben sich ab Mai 2008 in einem zweimonatigen Turnus
jeweils bis zu sechs Musiker verschiedenster stilistischer Herkunft.
Die Verschiedenheit der Protagonisten wird hier nicht als Hürde
begriffen, sondern als ein nutzbares kreatives Potential. Denn das
Vergnügen der Laborarbeit liegt gerade in der Kombination sehr
unterschiedlicher musikalischer Substanzen. Die vom „Laborleiter“
eingeladenen Musiker sollen zum aktuellen Labor-Thema musikalisches
und performatives Material erarbeiten. Das können Kompositionen,
Spielregeln, Choreographien, Soundsamples, Improvisationsanordnungen,
Computerprogramme oder ähnliches sein.
