Brian de Palmas politischster Film zeigt in der Form einer
fiktionalisierten Doku eines der schlimmsten Verbrechen im Irakkrieg,
das sogenannte Massaker von Mahmudija. Dabei vergewaltigten fünf US-
Soldaten eine 14-jährige Irakerin und töteten sie und ihre Familie.
Mit recht geringem Budget gedreht, erregte der Film international
Aufmerksamkeit. Brian De Palmas most politicially film shows in the
format of a fictional docu one of the worst crimes in the Iraq war,
the so called massacer of Mahmudija. There five US soldiers raped a 14
year old Iraqi girl and killed her and her family. Produced with a not
too high budget, this film attracted international interest.

Of the many recent films opposing the Iraq war and the War on Terror,
Redacted is one of the most angry, provocative and stylistically
daring. It's unquestionably controversial, earning De Palma the Venice
Film Festival Silver Lion Award for Best Director, as well as a call
from Fox News' Bill O'Reilly for audiences to picket and boycott the
film. Von der großen Anzahl von neueren Filmen, die sich gegen den

the film unfolds through "alternative" cinematic and news-gathering
methods. Primarily we discover the story via the digital camera of
Angel Salazar, a soldier in Samarra documenting his war experience:
"This is going to get me into film school!" Redacted also features
simulations of a slickly photographed French documentary, segments
from an Al-Jazeera-type cable channel, an Islamist terrorist website,
video blogs, YouTube-style clips, taped depositions and security-
camera footage. Konsequenterweise entfaltet sich der Film mit Hilfe
von "alternativen" cinematischen Methoden der Nachrichtenproduktion.
Erst einmal entdecken wir die Geschichte durch die Digitalkamera von
Angel Salazar, einem Soldaten, der in Samarra seine Kriegserlebnisse
dokumetiert. "Das wir mir die Tür zur Filmhochschule öffnen!" Redacted
zeigt aber auch die Simulation einer professionell gefilmten
französischen Dokumentation verwoben mit Sendungen eines Kabelkanals
im Stile Al-Jazeeras, einer Webseite von Islamistischen Terroristen,
Video Blogs, Clips wie auf YouTube, Videogeständnissen und Material
aus Überwachungskameras.
