This topic was discussed a while ago by Allen in the context of removing support for upgrading from pre 1.0 Roller dbs.
I thought I should mention that I just helped a user from the mailing list upgrade from 0.98 to 1.2. Two notes: (1) apparently there are still people upgrading. (2) Somewhere along the sequence of upgrade scripts the upgrades of the categories/category relationships and folders/folder relationships went quite bad. Luckily, he was farily sophisticated and was able to get out of the mess with light guidance. I suspect bugs in the early db upgrade scripts. Generating old DBs to test upgrades would test my pain tolerance, but we may want to survey for old users still out there and issue a kind of "last call". If there are enough, it is probably worth getting an old db (perhaps from a volunteer, or perhaps from an old backup of Dave's), and trying to fix upgrade script bugs. --a.
