Hi Noel,
I think we had a little misunderstanding. Let's work it out. Based on
our earlier discussions, I was operating under the impression that:
1) I can can continue to make NON ASF releases at Java.Net
2) We're not ready to make a ASF release from the incubator due the
LGPL issues
For #1: It's my understanding that anybody can take code from the ASF
repositories and release it as an open source or commercial product,
under the terms of the ASL -- i.e. a non ASF release. I tried to make
it clear in the announcement for this release and the README that my
bundle was not connected with the ASF in any way. So I need to figure
out how to do it without the impression that a release is "official"
ASF.
See the full disclaimer here:

entry=roller_2_0_ea_standalone>
For #2: am I wrong about this one? Can we make an ASF release now?
I'd really like to see the final Roller 2.0 release be an official ASF
release, under the rules of the incubator. What do we need to do to
make that happen?
- Do we know the specific steps we must take to deal with the LGPL
issue?
- Can we resolve these by early October when Roller 2.0 will be ready?
- Or do we just call for a vote and see what happens?
That said...
A better approach probably would have been to call for a vote and I
apologize for not doing this. I mentioned on the list that I was
working on releasing a demo bundle, but I forgot to call for a vote.
Sam suggested a snapshot. What do we need to make an snapshot
available? I have the same questions as the three above.

Dave,
I appreciate the motivation, but this is not how it works. Any ASF
release
needs to be voted upon. Normally, this would be done by the project's
PMC.
For a project under incubation, it would be voted upon by the PPMC
(which
includes the Incubator PMC).
Please see

Incubation_Policy.html#Releases%0D
for information on releases while in the Incubator.
