Databases are *supposed* to be able to contain massive amounts of data ;) I'm in favor of purging idle/old data, if at all.

At work, we were wondering how people with larger Roller setups deals with data over a long period of time, on the database side. Are there archival tables that can be broken up? E.g. by year+month, in addition to main tables for 'relatively recent stuff'? Our experience with large databases is that a single table to hold years of data is unwieldly as that may make it harder to do fast searches when you need more memory to hold a larger index, with most of the old data not of normal interest. Also makes table restores much faster, too, when it's broken up. Also, are there easy ways of purging stuff older than <date> on a sitewide basis? Looks like you can do that on a per-user basis, but not clear if it can be done on a sitewide basis. -Dan
