Make front page like another blog

Is there any quick way to make front page like another blog?  More 
specifically, to create a calendar and move yesterday (and previous items) in 
the "Recent Posts" into the calendar.  In another words, "Recent Posts" become 
"Today's Posts".  And previous posts are accessible through the calendar.
