The macros *used to* support passing on the Category information, but this was a couple years ago and I haven't kept up with the changes. The macro for the next/previous link involved checking for a category in the request parameters and using that value in creating the links (also in looking up the next/prev entries).
That all may have been lost, and it was a bit torturous and brittle. But maybe that gives you an idea of how you could (re)implement this.
