Wild guess.

Can you include the database url you have configured? This looks like it may be a problem with the jdbc url. I know that you tried the ping test on the pool, but I'm not sure that would surface this. Make sure that the jdbc url includes the name of the db holding the roller schema (in the right place in the url).
