post multibyte chars: java.sql.SQLException: Illegal mix of collations?

hi,

when i try to post a weblog that contains multibyte chars, i get this:
Caused by: java.sql.SQLException: Illegal mix of collations 
(latin1_swedish_ci,IMPLICIT) and (utf8_general_ci,COERCIBLE) for 
operation '='

did i miss something when configuring my database?
