vi/vim's commands are much faster than having to go through menus, or reaching for the mouse in general, in my opinion. No scrolling? It has great scrolling, as well as go to line, go to top or bottom of page, search, save, etc with only a couple of keystrokes. If vi is slow, you just haven't learned the commands.
