Yeah, we all usually use the cron tab to launch an executable script. I had a script that would backup and label the whole mud with the current date. it ran daily.
it was only about 6 lines long, too. I don't remember the lines now. It's been a long while since I had it written, and I've lost that file since I redid my whole linux box. Take a look at cron jobs and write up a short simple perl script and label the backups with the date. That way, u'll know exactly when the backup was done.
