Wearing EQ without adding the affects over and over.

Greetings,
	I am having a problem.  When you log into the mud, the mud puts your eq 
back on for you.  Unfortunatly it is applying the affects on the EQ EACH 
time.  For example.  A quest item that give +200 mana gives +200 mana EACH 
time you log in. How can this be stopped and can you give me a hint where 
to look.
