make something in pcdata called 'calm' or some crap.
If it's set to true then just don't call multi_hit for the player in
violence_update().

I've been wanting to do this for a long time, but haven't got around to it. 
I'm not sure how exactly I would do this but here is what I'm thinking:
Removing the player from combat and just keeping the mob in combat. So the 
monsters would keep attacking over and over again and if the choose to do so

- he could just stand there and take the hits. I've tried some small things 
to attempt this but didn't get anywhere. I'm assuming that combat would have

to be totally rewritten, but I'm hoping that I'm wrong and someone could 
inform me other wise. :P. Thanks
