Of course, this may prove more easily said than done.. Redhat 8 takes the liberty of breaking gcc, among a lot of other things. For example, gcc on RH8 is so broken, I can't even compile a bone stock gcc 3.2 without errors. As for your pico option.. I'm pretty sure RH8 has an option to install pine. However, for whatever reason it doesn't seem to include the pico binary. Just to save you potential trouble, I tried Conectiva's pico rpm and it seems to be working great as far as pico goes.
