No, it's not like dos. Run scripts with './' at the beginning. So you want to
type "./startup &' It may look a little weird, but it's more practical.
Distringuishes between command and script/binary
If that dosen't work, try just copying the rom binary into your areas
directory and running it from there. ('./rom &') You can leave off the
ampersand if you want to see the output ROM gives you through stderr.

You mean Red Hat Linux 8.0? There's a huge difference between the vendor's
version number and the actual kernel version. You're probably using Linux
kernel version 2.4
