32767 by default, as vnums are defined as a short int. Though, that will vary from system to system, that is the "standard".
As for increasing them, it takes a lot of modification (as you have to change everywhere that a vnum or a temp storage for a vnum is used), but if you simply change them to an int, then you'll have about 2billion rooms..... That should be more than enough to suffice. Personally? if your going to do it once, use a typedef, such as: typedef VNUM_TYPE int type idea, that way you can change it again later, without having to go thru every piece and re-do it.
