The only thing that bothers me about the violence update is that the order of battle is based on the characters' position in the char list. An initiative-based system such as D&D or even a truly random system would be better. That said, I don't know how to fix it easily. I suppose making sure everyone gets a full combat round is reasonable.
As for aggression... For starters, only poll mobs in rooms that contain PCs. This allows you to use the much shorter descriptor list, and it generally works the same. I have an event queue, so I just queue up an aggression check on rooms a few pulses after PCs enter or leave it. I still run the poll just to be sure, but far less often than every pulse. --Palrich.
