Several Romanian museums to attend 'The Night of Museums' Other arts such as theatre, film, exhibitions and dance are invited to attend the event organized by the International Council of Museums. published in issue 4114 page 12 at 2008-02-05 The fourth edition of "The Night of Museums" will be organised, this year, on May 17. The Ministry of Culture and Religious Denominations (MCC) invited all the Romanian museums to attend this annual event, that takes place in several European countries, and to open gates for the audience. Initiated in France, "The Night of Museum" created the opportunity, from the very beginning, for the foundation and consolidation of a network of European museums around a common event. The purpose was to encourage the audience, especially young people, to discover the collections of museums. This year, the event will be scheduled a day before the International Museums' Days (May 18) and is organized by the International Council of Museums. Therefore, the gates of several Romanian museums will open for visitors on Saturday, May 17, starting at 19.30. Moreover, exhibitions, theatre, film, dance and performances are also invited at the museum for this special occasion. The access to the performances celebrating "The Night of Museums" is free or based on symbolic prices. The museums that wish to attend the fourth edition of "The Night of Museums" may apply on the website http://www.nuitdesmusees.culture.fr/inscription, until February 15, 2008. Last year' edition of the "Night of Museums" was organized on May 19. It was attended by approximately 2,000 art, history, ethnography and science museums from over 40 European countries. In Romania, the event was attended by the National Museum of Transylvanian History from Cluj, the Astra Museum from Sibiu, the National Geology Museum from Bucharest, the National Museum of Romanian Art, the Museum of Art Collections etc. "The Night of Museums" project was initiated in 2005, based on a proposal by Donnedieu de Vabres, who was the French Culture and Communications Minister at that moment. It was an initiative meant to attract more visitors to the museums. Therefore, "The Night of Museums" followed another annual event organized since 1999 - "The Spring of Museums". by George Grigoriu <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> (C) 2000-2007 Nine o'Clock ---------------------------- Vali "Noble blood is an accident of fortune; noble actions are the chief mark of greatness."
