Information Office of the Council of Europe in Bucharest: Strasbourg, 07.10.2004 - Action against corruption and trafficking is one of the themes for the fifth Forum of Cities and Regions of South-East Europe of the Council of Europe Congress of Local and Regional Authorities, to be held in Budva, Serbia and Montenegro on 11 and 12 October.
The Forum, which brings together representatives of local and regional authorities from the whole region, will also look at how municipalities in the area can have access to European Union funds. It will also turn the spotlight on fiscal decentralisation and the use of tourism to re-launch local and regional economies.
The Forum will be held in the Grand Hotel Avala, Mediteranska 1, Budva, Montenegro, and will be opened by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Montenegro, Milo Djukanovic, the Congress President Giovanni Di Stasi, the Head of the OSCE Mission in Serbia and Montenegro Maurizio Massari, and Deputy Special Co-ordinator of the Stability Pact for South-Eastern Europe Michael Mozur. A press conference will be held at the hotel at 1 pm on 12 October.
Previous Forums have been held in Skopje (November 2000), Istanbul (November 2001), Novi Sad ( April 2002) and Prijedor (September 2003). They have led to many initiatives, such as the Network of Associations of Local Authorities of South-East Europe (NALAS).
