Dear Student,
We are a group of students from UCL (Universit� Catholique de Louvain), Belgium. We are writing to you in order to present you our non-profit organisation: �AUEL� (Association Universitaire Europ�enne de Louvain) and to invite interested students from your university to join our European Week, which will be held from 14th to 18th March in Louvain-La-Neuve (Belgium). The AUEL is a young association (4 years old) founded by students and run by students. Our motivation has allowed us to gain recognition and support of Mr. Melchior Wathelet, former Belgian Minister and former judge at the Court of Justice of the European Communities, and of Mr. Xavier Renders, vice-rector of our university. Our major goal is to gather European students and challenge them to debate on European matters, as a means of promoting cultural diversity and of forging a strong European identity . Following the success of the first European Week in March 2004, that gathered more than 100 students from all over Europe (including Romania, Bielorussia, Turkey), the new AUEL team invites you to the second edition of the European Week ( 14th -18th March 2005, Louvain la Neuve, Belgium) . Under the slogan Next stop,Europe! we challenge you to join a five days marathon that includes a simulation of the European Parliament, visits of the European Institutions (Brussels), conferences as well as leisure activities (European quizz,European buffet, parties) and all this in one of Belgium�s most lively university campuses. The participation fee is 20�. As far as the accommodation is concerned, participating students will be accomodated in �Kots� (Belgian students apartments) with Belgian students. However, they should take a sleeping bag. The European week is open to any student over 18. It is necessary that participants have an active knowledge of either French or English(able to express themselves) and passive knowledge (able to understand) of the other because the activities will be held in both languages. For the success of the European week we need the involvement of as much foreign students as possible. So if you are interested, please fill in the registration form available on our website (http://auel.agl.ul.ac.be or http://www.auel.tk) and don�t hesitate to spread our invitation. However we insist on the fact that the number of participants is limited; so please get registered before February 15th 2005. Such a week is a unique chance to discover the way Europe works, to question major deciders of the European Union and all this in a convivial atmosphere and open-minded orientation. Nous nous adressons � vous afin de vous pr�senter l�association internationale sans but lucratif dont nous nous occupons, l�Association universitaire europ�enne de Louvain (AISBL AUEL). Nous vous invitons � nous rejoindre pour un marathon de cinq jours qui, outre une simulation du Parlement europ�en, comptera des d�bats, conf�rences, visites des institutions europ�ennes de Bruxelles, sans oublier bien entendu les n�cessaires moments plus ludiques (repas europ�en, quizz europ�en, etc.) et tout �a dans l�un des campus le plus dynamique de Belgique. Apr�s quatre ann�es d�activit�s, la motivation des �tudiants de l�AUEL leur a vallu le soutien de Xavier Renders, Vice-Recteur aux Affaires �tudiantes de l�UCL et de Melchior Wathelet, ancien Vice-Premier Ministre f�d�ral, Ministre-pr�sident de la R�gion wallonne et magistrat � la Cour de Justice des Communaut�s Europ�ennes. La participation � la semaine europ�enne de l�AUEL est ouverte � tous les �tudiants majeurs. Il est cependant n�cessaire que chacun ait une connaissance passive (compr�hension � l�audition et lecture) du fran�ais et de l�anglais et une connaissance active (expression orale) d�une des deux langues. Cette condition est essentielle car les activit�s se d�rouleront dans les deux langues. Les frais d�inscription � la semaine europ�enne sont de 20�. Les �tudiants participants seront h�berg�s b�n�volement dans des � kots � (maisons et appartements communautaires �tudiants typiquement belges) en compagnie d��tudiants belges. Les participants doivent emporter un sac de couchage. Pour que la semaine europ�enne soit un succ�s, nous avons besoin de la participation la plus large possible d��tudiants europ�ens. N�anmoins, nous insistons sur le fait que le nombre de places est limit�. C�est pourquoi nous aimerions que vous remplissiez le plus rapidement possible le formulaire d�inscription que vous trouverez sur notre site web (http://auel.agl.ul.ac.be ou http://www.auel.tk). Par ailleurs, n�h�sitez surtout pas � envoyer cette invitation aux personnes que vous connaissez qui pourraient �tre int�ress�es. Une telle semaine est une chance unique pour les �tudiants de d�couvrir le fonctionnement de l�Europe de l�int�rieur, de c�toyer et d�interpeller les d�cideurs principaux de l�Union et tout �a dans une ambiance conviviale et d�ouverture � l�autre.
