The Registry is looking for lawyers who will work in Legal Divisions and be responsible for a certain number of case files to be processed in English or French.
Duties
o Examining and dealing with applications lodged with the Court;
o advising applicants, by correspondence or in person, on the conditions of admissibility of applications;
o preparation of case files in English or French for examination by Judge-Rapporteurs and submission to the Court;
o attending the Court's sessions and presenting applications;
o drafting judgments, decisions, minutes, reports, notes and other documents;
o assisting the Head of Division, where appropriate, in the organisation of the work, the training and the supervision of trainees and assistant lawyers in the Division;
o representation of the Registry at outside events, such as seminars, colloquies and conferences.
Qualifications
o University degree in law of a standard permitting access, either on the basis of qualifications or after passing a competitive examination, to the judicial administration or legal professions in Romania;
o professional experience acquired in the legal field (preferably in the judicial service) in Romania or in international organisations;
o thorough knowledge of the Romanian legal system and ability to handle cases arising in other national jurisdictions;
o knowledge of constitutional and of international law;
o very good knowledge of one of the two official languages of the Council of Europe (English, French) and ability to draft legal texts therein clearly and precisely; some knowledge of the other official language; knowledge of other European languages desirable;
o excellent knowledge of Romanian (mother tongue or command of mother tongue standard).

Candidates must be nationals of a Council of Europe member State and must be aged under 55 on the closing date of the vacancy notice.
On the basis of this competition, a reserve list will be drawn up of successful candidates who may be offered employment during the period of validity of the list (two years, this period may be extended). Appointment will be made either on contracts of fixed or indefinite duration.
