From: Disability Discrimination Summer School Sent: Wednesday, June 08, 2005 5:31 PM Subject: Disability Discrimination Summer School 2005
Dear Madam/Sir,
I have pleasure in attaching information regarding the Disability Discrimination Summer School 2005. This project is supported by the European Commission, Employment and Social Affairs DG and Professor Gerard Quinn from the National University of Ireland, Galway, is the Director of the Summer School. I thought your organisation may be interested in this Summer School or know of other people or organisations who may? I would be most grateful if you could circulate this information within and outside your organisation and print the promotional flyer and poster to advertise the event on your office notice board, etc.
The Disability Discrimination Summer School is the first of its type in Europe to focus on anti-discrimination legal issues on the ground of disability and it runs from 4-15th July 2005. It will focus on the potential of the European Union Framework Directive on Employment in the context of disability. The Framework Directive is the single most important legal instrument at the European level combating discrimination on the ground of disability. Its success or failure will be crucial to the cause of advancing the rights of persons with disabilities in Europe.
The Summer School will raise general legal awareness about the practical potential of the Directive in the disability context and should appeal to a wide range of persons and bodies including persons with disabilities, practising lawyers, judges, law students and disability non-governmental organisations (NGOs) as well as those more generally interested in public interest litigation. More particularly, the Summer School is designed to impart skills as well as knowledge to enable participants to construct effective test case strategies under the Directive on behalf of persons with disabilities. A prestigious teaching faculty has been assembled to deliver the programme. It is drawn from an international group of prominent legal experts and especially practitioners who have extensive experience in bringing test cases in the field of disability. For further information about this event, please visit the website: http://www.eusummerschool.info We would be delighted if you felt you would like to feature this event on your own organisation’s website, and/or link to our website, as we hope to reach as many people as possible who are interested in combating disability discrimination.
You will notice from the website that Maastricht University (our project partner) is organising a similar event on Race, Ethnic Origin and Religion and Belief in June. Please contact the project organisers directly if you are interested in this event.
Many thanks and kind regards,
Rachel.
