Dear Ms. Harvey,
We are writing you at the request of Vlachs ( actually Romanians) living in Timoc region of Serbia and of other NGO Associations, to report about the continuous discrimination by the authorities of Serbia of those Romanian-Vlachs living in that area long before even the time of Austro-Hungarian empire when they have more rights than now. They are not allowed to have schools in their native tongue and are continuously exposed to a forceful discrimination by the Serbian Authorities.
In the last time, there were more hostile actions against Romanian-Vlachs by the ultranationalist Serbian groups, writing graffiti on the church walls and inscriptions like “get out of Serbia”.
Recently the Romanians-Vlach of Malainita of Timoc region have built a church on their own land under the leadership of their priest Boian Alexandrovich in order to have the church service and prayers, in their Romanian native tongue . The address of Mr. Boian Alexandrovich the priest is Naselje Gradiste 11, 19300 Negotin , Serbia Mobile phone: +381638157209The Serbian church authority has forbidden the use of Romanian language in the church therefore it has told Mr. Boian Alexandrovich they requested the Serbian administration to demolish the Malainita church, in the next two weeks.
Considering the gravity of the situation for Romanian-Vlachs from Timoc region, and being afraid of a future escalation of the conflict, we are asking your assistance to support them in their actions to obtain their legitimate rights to use their native tongue in church and also to be allowed to have schools using the Romanian language.
