Dear potential partners

Shrewsbury College of Arts & Technology is the largest College of
Further Education in Shropshire.  We are looking for partners
interested in our Leonardo da Vinci project proposal.

Our project idea is to develop an `E` Learning resource in
Construction Health & Safety skills in European Languages to
establish a level of competence and skills for their workers and
those who are migrating to alternative countries in search of work.

"The number of accidents in the construction industry is higher
than
in other sectors, according to European statistics.  The number of
reported accidents (where more 3 or more days absence occurs) is
double that in the construction sector to the all sector average
–
over 8,000 per 100,000 persons employed as against 4,000 per 100,000
being killed in construction a against 5 per 100,000 as the all-
sector average"  (source : Europe.osha)

For example:  In the United Kingdom, there are approximately 13,000
reported accidents each year in construction.  About 140 are fatal.
This is almost three deaths per week across the industry (source
HSE2003).  The Health & Safety Executive (HSE) reports that between
Oct 2003 and May 2004, nine apprentice workers (all under the age of
23) have been killed on work placements.  This data is unacceptable
and solutions are being explored to improve the record of this
industry.  A similar picture emerges across Europe with many
countries performing well below the UK targets.

The project will develop CD Rom based `E' Learning materials
in
Construction Health & Safety on site in an agreed range of
languages.  Such materials will include the use of alternative
strategies to demonstrate the concept of the safe worker through case
studies, interactive games, references to legislation (in selected
countries) and emerging technologies and share best practice in this
area.

Please contact Val Maddox ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) immediately if you
wish to join our partnership and are involved in construction or
health and safety.  The deadline is the 30 September 2005
