Romania - Francisco Millán Mon MEP on the monitoring report on the state of preparedness for EU membership   "The Committee on Foreign Affairs of the European Parliament has given a green light to the effective membership of Romania for January 1st 2007, but with the condition that next spring its Government implements the pending reforms. The final position of the Parliament will depend on the monitoring report that the European Commission will publish next March on these reforms.   "With the report approved today, the European Parliament has also reminded the President of the European Commission of his duty to keep Parliament constantly informed, especially if he eventually decides to activate the safeguard clause that will mean the delay on the Romania full membership of EU for one year".   "The report underlines the progress made by Romania until now, but also insists that there is more work to accomplish on the fight against corruption, border controls and other areas such as agriculture, environment and public procurement"   Mircea Halaciuga, Esq.
