PROGRAMME OBJECTIVES:
The European Community awards grants to support academic institutions in the implementation of European integration projects through teaching activities, transnational research groups, university networks, support for research abroad and for information and conference activities.
SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES:
The Jean Monnet Action and the Support for Study and Research Centres have the objective to stimulate knowledge of the European integration process through teaching, reflection, debate, applied research and the activities of Centres of Excellence, Jean Monnet professors and researchers.
This involves encouraging local and regional partnerships between universities and civil society, particularly in the context of Jean Monnet European Centres of Excellence and national ECSA (European Community Studies Association) networks.
ELIGIBLE ACTIVITIES:
• Jean Monnet European Centres of Excellence; (i.e. pluridisciplinary structures pooling scientific, human and documentary resources for European integration studies and research within one or more Universities);
• Jean Monnet Chairs and ad personam Jean Monnet Chairs; (i.e. full-time teaching posts, entirely devoted to the study of European integration);
• Jean Monnet modules. (i.e. courses on European integration of minimum 30 teaching hours);
• Jean Monnet Transnational Research Groups (i.e. joint research projects between Jean Monnet Chairs, national ECSA associations (European Community Studies Associations) and/or Jean Monnet European Centres of Excellence.
WHO CAN APPLY:
Applications must be from universities or other higher-education establishments (recognised as such by their national authority).
Applications must be submitted and signed by the president/rector/vice-chancellor (
i.e. the university's highest administrative authority).
The university must undertake to maintain its Jean Monnet Chairs, Modules and European Centres of Excellence for at least two years after the period for which a Community cofinancing is provided, in other words for a total period of five years.
FINANCING CONDITIONS:
The maximum grant is EUR 50.000 per project per year.
Grants may not under any circumstances exceed 50% of the total eligible project costs.
Only activities which take place after the 1 September 2006 will be eligible.
