NGO Capacity Building – IRAQ

Friday 24th– Thursday 30th March, 2006 in Amman, JORDAN

To help build capacity of Iraqi human rights non-governmental organisations to undertake human rights fieldwork. The March 2006 programme in Amman aims to strengthen policies, strategies and practices for effective human rights NGOs and substantive and methodological approaches to human rights fieldwork in conflict. Priority is given to applications received by 1st March. This programme will be in Arabic and is open to Iraqi applicants only.

Human Rights Based Approaches to Development: Programme Cycle Management

Saturday 2nd - Friday 8th September, 2006 at National University of Ireland, Maynooth, IRELAND
This programme will explore the principles, policies and practice underpinning human rights based development and enhance participants’ skills in programming on this basis. Participants are facilitated in approaching their own development as an on-going process to enhance skills in teamwork, building relationships, communication, advocacy and designing strategic partnerships. Reflecting the multi-disciplinary nature of human rights based development, the training programme is aimed at policy advisors, project managers etc, with human rights specialisation, experience in development or humanitarian contexts as well as those working in development issues in industrialised countries. Priority for applications received by 1st June.

Human Rights Fieldwork - Principles, Strategies and Skills

Saturday 28th October - Sunday 5th November 2006 at National University of Ireland, Maynooth + Field Exercise at Irish Defence Forces training facility Coolmoney Camp, County Wicklow, IRELAND.

This programme will explore the principles underpinning effective human rights fieldwork and enhance the skills of participants to carry this out safely before, during or after armed conflict. The emphasis is on ensuring that human rights fieldwork is relevant, effective, sustainable, participatory and accountable. Priority for applications received by 1st August
