Young American volunteers to help prevent floods
Denisa Maruntoiu

About 200 American teenagers, who are children of American diplomats deployed in various European countries, arrived on Monday in Uricani (Jiului Valley) where they are to voluntarily help the inhabitants to clean the bed of a stream that is crossing the locality and build a 120 meter wall that is to protect the locality from eventual floods. Each volunteer has paid 1,200 dollars for transportation and accommodations in Romania.

In addition, the young people, who are members of the Young Life Europe NGOs, will also help local authorities to build a playground for the local kindergarten and will offer the children free English lessons.
The volunteers' work will come to an end on April 14, when a festivity will be organized by the local authorities.

It is the second year when a group of young volunteers has come to Romania to help the people in the Jiului Valley and teach the Romanian children about volunteering.
