Dear partners,

We would like to inform you that in December 2005 started the project The Civil Society Organisations in Bulgaria and Romania: On the Way Towards a Europe for All Ages

in the framework of the action of the European Commission Networking Programme – Civil Society Component – Bulgaria and Romania, Budget Line 22.02.01.

The promoter of the project is the organisation ZNANIE from Bulgaria and the partnership of the project is composed of organisations from Bulgaria, Romania and Czech Republic. Our organization, Romanian Society for Lifelong Learning, is the Romanian partner in the project. The project has a duration of 2 years.

The aim of the project is to assist the Civil Society Organisations in Bulgaria and Romania in strengthening their operations and actions aimed at ensuring equal treatment of all groups of population, especially the "third age" population who are the vulnerable groups and demand special care from the Civil Society institutions.

The direct target groups of the project are Civil Society Organisations from Bulgaria and Romania, interested to develop activities and policies in the field of the project.

The indirect target group are the older (55+) people in Bulgaria and Romania, who will benefit in their situation from the increased activities of the Civil Society Organisations and will count on better advocacy and representation from the "third sector" institutions.

The main activities cover local and national researches on the topic, formation of networks of CSOs involved in active ageing in Bulgaria and Romania, workshops and seminars for improving their capacity, establishing contacts with EU Civil Society Organisations and networks active in the area, and building future partnership through web-based platform, future partnership projects, and possible establishment of new Civil Society Organisations structures. The activities also cover also active involvement of the older people themselves.

As a result of the project activities, 30 Bulgarian and Romanian CSOs will have strengthened their organisational and managerial capacities to pursue their statutory activities in promotion of active ageing. They will be equipped with methodologies on provision of services, advocacy and fundraising, reviewed and updated taking into account the experiences and best practices of Civil Society Organisations in Germany, The Netherlands, Finland and Czech Republic. They will have also established contacts with EU CSOs and will be successfully integrated into the existing EU networks.

In addition, the project will develop also:

- National reports for analysis of the practices and potentials of the CSOs in the field of active ageing in Bulgaria and Romania

- National reports / recommendations for enhancing the role of the CSOs in policies and advocacy of active ageing in Bulgaria and Romania

Thank you very much for your attention. We will keep you informed on the development of the project and we will provide you with the outcomes as soon as they are ready.

Best regards,

Simona Capatan

Stimati parteneri,

Dorim sa va informam ca in Decembrie 2005 a demarat proiectul The Civil Society Organisations in Bulgaria and Romania: On the Way Towards a Europe for All Ages (Organizatiile Societatii Civile din Bulgaria si Romania: Spre o Europe pentru toate varstele) in cadrul programului de Networking al Comisiei Europene – Sectiunea Societatea Civila – Bulgaria si Romania.

Proiectul are o durata de 2 ani.

In plus, proiectul va mai realiza si:

- Rapoarte nationale pentru analizarea bunelor practici si potentialului organizatiilor societatii civile in ceea ce priveste fenomenul de imbatranire activa in Bulgaria si Romania;

- Rapoarte nationale / recomandari pentru intensificarea rolului organizatiilor societatii civile in privinta politicilor si sprijinului public pentru imbatranirea activa in Bulgaria si Romania.

Simona Capatan
