Tabere de voluntariat
O tabara de voluntariat este locul unde oameni de rase, ideologii si
nationalitati diferite traiesc si muncesc impreuna timp de doua pana la
patru saptamani in cadrul unui proiect sustinut de o organizatie locala.
Majoritatea taberelor de voluntariat se desfasoara in timpul verii si
cuprind intre 10 si 20 de participanti. Acestia desfasoara o activitate de
voluntariat si in timpul taberei interactioneaza si muncesc impreuna cu
membrii comunitatii locale. Voluntarii reprezinta o forta multiculturala,
internationala de munca. Aceasta este o tabara de voluntariat si
functioneaza!
Taberele de voluntariat asigura tinerilor oportunitatea de a combina
energiile proprii si abordeaza impreuna probleme importante ale viitorului
planetei noastre. Fie ca lucreaza la un centru pentru copii in Paris,
intr-un proiect pentru protectia mediului in Colorado sau in cadrul unor
ateliere de munca in Sri Lanka, eforturile voluntarilor contribuie la
realizarea pacii mondiale.
Proiectele se impart in trei categorii largi munca fizica, precum
constructii, plantari sau renovari; activitati sociale, adesea cu copii,
pesoane in varsta sau persoane cu dizabilitati; sau studiu, unde munca si
invatatura sunt combinate.

YAPUK-04 BURTON BRADSTOCK "Living in a community" 08/09-18/09
ENVI/CONS/STUDY 18+ 08 vols
PROJECT: The Othona Community at Burton Bradstock is related to the
original Othona in Essex, where YAP UK has organised workcamps for many
years. It is an open Christian community which learns from people of all
faiths and none. Worship in the chapel is part of the daily life of the
community. The atmosphere is informal and visitors, including
international volunteers, will be accepted as part of the community and
will be expected to share activities and tasks
WORK and STUDY PART: The work will consist of a variety of manual tasks,
mainly out of doors, so be prepared for some hard physical work. This camp
will have a special study theme, "Living in a community". Everyone
searches for their role in life and which life style to choose. This is a
chance to go deeper into these ideas. We shall invite visitors with
experience of communal living and we hope the international volunteers
will contribute to this discussion with their own experiences.
LOCATION: The centre is situated 20 kms west of Dorchester, Dorset high
above the beach in its own large, wild grounds, on England's south coast.
The whole Dorset coastal area is very beautiful and unspoiled. It is known
as the "Jurassic Coast" due to the large number of fossils and other
prehistoric relics found there and has been declared a UNESCO World
Heritage Site. The nearest towns of any size are Weymouth, Dorchester and
Bournemouth/Poole.
CONCUK01 FAIRTHORNE WOOD 01.04 15.04 ENV 12 VOLS
Following the success of last years YMCA Fairthorne Manor Childrens
projects the YMCA Fairthorne Manor has invited a group of international
volunteers to undertake environmental work on their grounds and assist
with the final stages of completing their new farm and Forest School
Project.
Work: International volunteers will clear an area of woodland which has
been neglected over recent years, finish building paths and boardwalks and
help build handrails to allow disabled children to access the woodland.
Volunteers will also assist with the final stages of completing the farm
and assist with the care of the animals.
Location: Fairthorne Manor is located in a village called Curdridge which
is near the city of Southampton on the south coast of England. It is
about a 15 minute walk from Fairthorne Manor into the village where there
are pubs and shops. The nearest train station is Botley which is about
half an hours journey into Southampton.
Special requirements: Although this project is not a childrens project it
is based at a childrens playscheme therefore anyone working at the site
needs to have a Certificate of Good Conduct which must be sent to
Concordia at least three weeks before the project takes place. 2
references are also required. Alcohol is not permitted on site and there
is a designated smoking area.
CONCUK20 WOODCRAFT PARK 12.08 02.09 MANU/KIDS

to work as part of a team. Some useful skills include: ability to maintain
bikes and equipment, drive a tractor, tool use. Life guarding or other
skills in sporting activities may also be useful as would an ability to
play and instrument/sing. Erecting the tents is quite heavy work so
volunteers must be prepared for this. A Certificate of Good Conduct must
be sent to Concordia at least 3 weeks before the project takes place.

SIR GÂR 3
dates: 30th August 2006 13th Sept 2006
work: environmental
no. of volunteers: 10
age: 18+
location: Meinciau, Carmarthenshire
meeting point: Carmarthen Railway/Bus Station
PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Carmarthenshire, located in the Southwest of the country, is known as The
Garden of Wales for its beautiful countryside, which reaches from the
rugged coastline of Carmarthenshire Bay in the south, to the Black
Mountain region of the Brecon Beacons in the east and the gentle hills of
Pembroke to the West. Caerfyrddin (or Carmarthen, in English) is the
countys largest town, and the legendary birthplace of Myrddin, the wise
magician of Welsh folklore, better known as Merlin, the wizard of
Arthurian legend.
This project is hosted by Carmarthenshire County Council. One of the
Councils obligations is to encourage access to the countryside and to
maintain areas of the countryside, footpaths and country parks.
Volunteers will carry out practical environmental tasks alongside
professional contractors. Most of the work will involve making
improvements to public access in the park (i.e. improving and developing
footpaths), creating picnic areas and information points, and also
clearing scrub for reforestation. The work will be physical, outdoors and
may be in unpleasant conditions such as rain, wind and mud (even in
summer). There will be full days of work (09.00-17.00) so volunteers may
become tired and sore, and should be prepared to work hard.
The group will be living and working in a beautiful part of Wales where
there are many hills, beaches and castles. There will also be plenty of
opportunities to hear Welsh being spoken as many local people have it as
their first language. Welsh is one of the oldest languages in Europe and
belongs to the Celtic language tree. It is still spoken by approximately
20% of the population.
SPECIAL REMARKS:
Volunteers should bring sleeping bags, strong boots for working, a
waterproof jacket and trousers, as well as plenty of warm clothing, since
they will be working outside in all weather conditions. The project will
be led by a group of international MTVs (Medium-Term Volunteers) who will
live at Meinciau for 3 months.

ERYRI
dates: 16th Sep 2006 30th Sep 2006
work: environmental
no. of volunteers: 10
age: 18+
location: Snowdonia National Park, Gwynedd
meeting point: Bangor Railway/Coach Station
PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Eryri (or Snowdonia, as it is called in English) means Place of the
Eagles, and though unfortunately, the eagles are long-gone from the
region, it is easy to imaging their presence against the imposing backdrop
of the glacial mountain range. Parc Cenedlaethol Eryri, (The Snowdonia
National Park) is one of the eleven National Parks in England and Wales
and the second largest in the country. The National Park covers 840 square
miles of the most beautiful and unspoilt countryside in North Wales,
incorporating Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon), the highest mountain in England and
Wales, at 1085m, as well as many lakes, rivers, hills and forestland.
Unlike wild National Parks elsewhere, Eryri is home to just over 26,000
people, who live and work in its towns and villages, and on its many hill
farms. The area is also one of the heartlands of the Welsh language and
thus of the Welsh-language culture. As many as 70% of the population speak
Welsh, many as their first language.
The Snowdonia National Park Authority was created in 1996 to sustain the
local environment, culture and community and to promote understanding and
enjoyment of the National Park. The first duty of the Authority is to
conserve and enhance Eryris unique natural beauty, wildlife and cultural
heritage. Part of their work involves the upkeep and improvements of the
frequently trodden footpaths on the mountains and hills. They employ teams
of contractors who work alongside volunteers to do this work, which in
summer tends to be on the higher or more inaccessible parts of the
mountain range.
Volunteers will work at various locations in the National Park and will be
involved in a variety of types of work. The first week will be spent
working with the Parks forestry team, clearing brash, planting trees and
eradicating intrusive plants. The second week they will work with the
access teams to improve the footpaths on Snowdon or at other sites
(depending on the weather). They will work five full working days, and
will have the weekends free to explore the area.
Work will be outdoors in all weathers and so volunteers should come
prepared for icy winds, rain, mist and mud (so plenty of warm clothes,
waterproofs, and strong boots!)
SPECIAL REMARKS:
THE WORK IS PHYSICALLY DEMANDING AND VOLUNTEERS SHOULD ALSO BE AWARE THAT
THEIR WORKDAY MIGHT INCLUDE UP TO 2 HOURS OF WALKING UPHILL TO REACH THE
WORKSITE. VOLUNTEERS MUST BE FIT AND MOTIVATED TO WORK IN places of
spectacular scenery, but which may be difficult to reach. It is possible
that they will work on Yr Wyddfa (Mount Snowdon), quite near the summit,
where conditions can change very quickly, and they can become freezing
cold in a matter of minutes, unless properly dressed. Volunteers MUST
bring adequate clothing for such conditions, including boots suitable for
walking and steel toe-capped boots for the heavy work.
