Roman legion parade in Bucharest

Soldiers from the Legion 15 Apollinaris will parade Friday at noon from the National Military Center to the National Museum of History (on Victoria Avenue) to mark 1900 years since Dacia (the territory of current Romania) became a Roman province.

The History Museum has prepared an entire project for this anniversary, "Dacia Augusti Provincia," which will include on Friday and Saturday the opening of an exhibition, book launches, conferences, the military parade and fighting demonstrations with Romanian military officers in Herastrau Park in Bucharest.
Virgil Nitulescu, a councilor with the Ministry of Culture, said Tuesday, "We hope the parade will draw the attention of people in Bucharest."
The Museum of History will open an exhibition with portraits of Roman emperors Domitian, Trajan, Hadrian and Gallienus, fragments of artifacts and statues discovered during the recent archeological research in Basilica Ulpia, according to museum officials.
A miniature model of Trajan's Forum in Rome, which contains the column that displays scenes of the war through which the Roman emperor conquered Dacia, will also be on display at the exhibition.
The exhibition is organized with the help of the Musei Capitolini and Museo dei Fiori Imperiali nei Mercati di Traiano museums in Rome and with the support of the Italian Cultural Institute in Bucharest.
Virgil Nitulescu announced at a press conference the collaboration between Romanian and Italian cultural institutions will continue next year when "a quite rich Romanian exhibition will be sent to Rome." In the same press conference, Minister of Culture Adrian Iorgulescu said the Italian ambassador in Romania has confirmed the world renowned Milan Scala will be present in Sibiu in 2007, when the city will be the European cultural capital. The Italian minister of culture will pay a visit to Romania at the beginning of November.
