EU enlargement and labour migration within the EU
23-24 April, Warsaw
Call for papers

Recent enlargements of the EU in Central and Eastern Europe, in 2004 and
2007, have potentially profound effects in the member states, in regard
to labour migration patterns and their economic, demographic, social and
political consequences. The implications are only starting to be
explored by researchers, and there is a strong need to tackle these
issues and link perspectives from 'sending' and 'receiving' countries,
in order to inform future policies regarding labour migration and
mobility within the EU.

This seminar encourages the dissemination of the preliminary results of
studies regarding migration to/from countries which joined the EU in
2004 and stimulates discussion on policy issues regarding labour
migration and related issues after the EU enlargements from 2004 and
2007.

We invite proposals on the following themes:
- Consequences of the EU-15 transitory regulations after the
enlargement
from 2004;
- Regional and sub-regional patterns of migration from EU-8
countries;
-       Post-accession migration and emerging transnationalism;
- Labour market adjustments and development in the new member
states;
-       Consequences for migrants from non-EU area;
- Migration and development prospects for Bulgaria and Romania.

Abstracts (500 words) are welcomed from academics, researchers and
policy-makers by 31st January 2007.

Please send abstracts and enquiries regarding the seminar to Ms.
